Shot between 20.30 and 24.00 hrs around the centre during the Manchester riots and looting.
Upon deciding to go into town and document what was happening to the city in which I lived I grabbed my camera went into the centre where I quickly found a crowd gathering at Piccadilly Gardens. It soon became a mob, and after watching Spar being looted and packets of cigarettes thrown into the crowd I followed the mob as they smashed the shop fronts one after another.
You can see the rest of the photographs covering the rioting and looting on here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andreasandrews/sets/72157627272982467/
Footage from the video has appeared on BBC’s Panorama feature on the riots as well as ‘Inside the Riots’ the Truenorth TV Panorama programme, Charlie Brooker’s 2011 Screenwipe (Zeppotron) and has also been licensed to Eyeline Entertainment, AETN – A&E.
It has been said that my footage has showed elements of the riots in Manchester which are not seen elsewhere, and serves to highlight the riots in a way which is used and shown in several countries to a wide audience.
